Our Ideas Did Make a Difference
A popular advertisement of a mobile phone network on the Indian television has the tagline,
An initiative of the state government in their effort to make every school a model, child- friendly school, or Ama Vidyalaya, the Idea Box encourages students to put forth their ideas and suggestions in making their school better.
Placing of the box in schools is made mandatory under Samiksha, —a monitoring mechanism initiated by the state government, supported by UNICEF. It lists indicators through which the proper implementation of the RTE Act is ensured

Thanks to 12-year-old Pratyusha Jena, now a student of class 7, the school will soon get a computer.
Madhusmita Satpathy, another student of standard 7, had a different kind of dilemma.
Some of the ideas are very pertinent. For example, few years back when we didn’t have separate toilets for boys and girls, one student put that demand in the Idea Box.
