New Delhi, 29 June 2008: A new version of DevInfo India, version 2.0, was released on the second national statistics day on 29th June, 2008. Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs Shri Pranab Mukherjee unveiled the new version in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Shri G.K.Vasan, Chief Statistician of India and Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) Dr. Pronab Sen, and Director General, Central Statistical Organisation, MOSPI Dr. S. K. Nath.
The new version of DevInfo marks the successful collaboration between UNICEF and the MOSPI, Government of India in strengthening the national data dissemination systems.
The new version contains more than one million data values on 315 socio-economic indicators including several indicators to track the health, nutrition and wellbeing of children and women. The indicators are disaggregated by sex (male, female), location (rural, urban), caste/tribe groups (SC, ST), etc., to provide comprehensive information. It contains data on 138 time points including recent data sources such as the National Family Health Survey (2005-2006), Economic Survey (2007-2008) and the District Level Household Survey (2002-2004).
Users can either use the quick search option to do a Google style search of the comprehensive database or easily navigate the user interface to generate a custom data view by selecting indicators, time points and the level of geography.
The system includes smart tools to enable users to easily cluster, filter and export data in multiple formats.
The powerful presentation wizards now provide many advance features including saving table templates, creating advance chloropleth and dot density distributions maps. Users can quickly generate powerful presentations and highlight inequalities, present trends and advocate for equitable human development.
