Telangana became the 29th state of India in June 2014. Consisting of 31 districts, Telangana has a total population of 35.2 million. Its capital, Hyderabad, will be shared with Andhra Pradesh for up to 10 years. (Source: Census 2011). Telangana is the 12th largest Indian state by population. It has a high concentration of scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, backward communities and minority population.
The 2014 bifurcation from erstwhile Andhra Pradesh to Telangana has wedged delays in decision making that affected allocation of resources, programme implementation and projects including various schemes related to children. There are 3.9 million children between the ages of 0-6 in Telangana.
